Modelling and optimising run-time reconfigurable systems

چکیده
We present a simple model for specifying and optimising designs which contain elements that can be reconfigured at run-time. In this model the control mechanism for reconfiguration can be implemented in many ways: by the user using multiplexers or other logic blocks, or by FPGAs which support dynamic partial reconfiguration. The model can be used for encoding layout information and for assessing tradeoffs in circuit speed, design size, reconfiguration time, complexity of reconfiguration controller and so on. Our approach is illustrated by various reconfigurable implementations for filtering and locating edges in images. The design tradeoffs of these implementations are being evaluated on a PCI platform, which contains a Xilinx 6216 device.

Modelling Tile-Based Run-Time Reconfigurable Systems Using SystemC
In the area of hardware design, there is a noticeable trend towards the use of run-time reconfigurable elements as parts of System-on-Chips (SoCs), SoCs themselves are frequently targeted to reconfigurable platforms such as field programmable gate arrays. This development is a challenge to established high-level modelling and simulation methods which assume a static structure of the simulated s...

There is a significant demand for embedding high performance reconfigurable cores within future system on chip (SoC) designs as such cores offer flexibility as well as superior performance advantages in terms of speed, power and run time reconfigurability. However, one obstacle to the adoption of such cores within SoC designs is lack of know-how on how to model such high performance cores such ...

This paper presents a system-level approach for modelling and implementing hardware-software systems, which contain Run-Time Reconfigur able (RTR) hardware. The developed technique provides management and scheduling of RTR tasks from system-level simulations to synthesizable VHDL descriptions. The developed technique was implemented using OCAPI-xl – a system-level modelling and implementation t...

This paper focuses on a usually ignored issue, the autoconfiguration modelling and decision in the context of reconfigurable embedded systems. We propose an original and generic method based on control theory including stability analysis. Our approach addresses the question of local vs global reconfiguration decision at hardware, software and RTOS levels. We tackle the run-time uncertainty cond...
متن کاملContext Switching Strategies in a Run-Time Reconfigurable system
A distinctive feature of run-time reconfigurable systems is the ability to change the configuration of programmable resources during execution. This opens a number of possibilities such as virtualisation of computational resources, simplified routing and in certain applications lower power. Seamless run-time reconfiguration requires rapid configuration. Commodity programmable devices have relat...
